Description
Banana palm is a fast-growing tropical plant exceeding in size others of its class. It is famed for its greatly sized leaves as well as its sweet banana which is popular across the globe. Even though it is referred to as “palm,” it does not belong to the ‘true palm tree’ family. It encompasses the genus Musa. Whereas they have traditionally been grown in the South Eastern parts of Asia, nowadays banana palms are cultivated in most tropical areas of the world. Aside from the delicious fruit, they are quite helpful as a landscaping feature since they enhance the beauty of the garden.
Physical Features
Banana palms will reach 10 to 30 feet in height. They have large, wide, bright green leaves that are 6 to 10 feet in length. Leaves emerge in a spiral pattern from the center of the plant. The “trunk” of the banana palm is not an actual woody trunk. It consists of closely compacted stalks of leaves and is referred to as a “pseudostem.” It has a flower stalk that develops into a bunch of bananas. The fruit is produced in clusters and may be yellow, green, or red based on the variety. Every plant tends to produce fruit once in its lifetime when the principal stem dies, but new shoots emerge from the bottom to take its place.
